YORK - York College jumped out to a two set advantage Monday afternoon before falling to the Lancers from Mount Marty College. York took the first set 26-24 and then followed suit with a 25-19 win. However, the Lancers battled back winning the next two 25-16 and 25-21. York hung around on the fifth set but ran out of fuel as they fell 15-13.
York jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the first set and kept the advantage all the way to a 11-5 lead after a Halie Ewing (SR/Liberty, Mo) kill. The Lancers battled back and scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 14-13 lead. The rest of the game went back and forth before the Panthers held on for the 26-24 win.
In the second set the Panther fell behind early as they found themselves battling an 8-5 deficit before making a climb back into it at 10-10. Two kills by the Lancers and the Panthers took a quick time out to catch their breath. A small adjustment was made and the Panthers went on an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach 21-13.
Game three and four belonged to the Lancers as they hit .444 and .364 as a team to even the match at two games a piece.
The fifth set was very close and and went back and forth before the Lancers hung on for the 15-13 victory. The Panthers couldn't find their solid attack they had earlier in the afternoon as they were only able to produce a .063 kill percentage.
Ewing led the Panthers with 16 kills while Alyssa Didier (SR/Littleton, Colo) added 10 herself. Didier also assisted 21 times and accumulated 15 digs. Jolene Herzog (JR/Pullman, Wash) led the team with 25 assists. Delaney Woods (SR/York, Neb) added 14 digs, while Herzog and Wroot each added double digit digs as well with 12 and 11, respectively. Kayliana Cox (SR/Castle Rock, Colo) led the Panthers with three of the team's eight blocks.
The Panthers fall to 2-14 on the season.
