Volleyball: Panthers split weekend in McPherson

McPherson, KAN. - York College fell in straight sets to nationally ranked McPherson College 25-22, 25-20, 25-12, then came back and beat Mount Marty in four 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19.

In the first match the Panthers weren't able to stop the Bulldogs offensive power as they hit .242 as a team and accounted for 47 kills. The Panthers were just in the positive on attacking with .059, having 27 kills on 118 attempts. York was led by Molly Little (JR/Billings, Mont) with eight kills, and Tori Schindler (SO/Longmont, Colo) with seven. Kaylie Riesgo added 26 assists, while Deborah Kurtzer (SR/Haxtun, Colo) had 17 digs. Katie Bell (SR/Hastings, Neb) added 13 digs for the Panthers as part of the team's 55.

In the second match against the Lancers the Panthers more than doubled their hitting percentage with .185. York accumulated 44 kills on 135 attempts. The Lancers had five more kills than York, but their errors were up by seven. Molly Little again led the Panthers with 12 kills on 27 attempts. Shiloh Lively (FR/Las Vegas, Nev) added nine kills, with Taylor O'Brien (SO/Aurora, Colo) adding six. Kayli Riesgo (JR/Tuscan, Ariz) assisted on 36 kills. Riesgo added 15 digs to her resume, one shy of Deborah Kurtzer, who recorded 16. Rose Tafaoialii (SO/Magna, Utah) powered the defense with one block solo, and five assisted.

The Panthers will close out their regular season on Wednesday night as they host Tabor College. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Freeman Center. York is currently 7-26 on the season.
