Women's Soccer: Zavala scores game winner over Briar Cliff

YORK - Carmen Zavala (SO/Chino, Calif) scored her first goal of the season to give the Panthers their first ever victory over Briar Cliff. Zavala took a shot from the corner of the penalty area about 25 yards out and sailed it over the Chargers' goalkeeper for the lead 11 minutes into the game.

York would only get two more shots off in the half, but that didn't matter as Sam Blazek (FR/Diamond Bar, CA) was a wall in goal for the Panthers as she picked up six saves. Blazek was credited with another two saves in the second half as she earned the shutout win in her first college appearance.

York was out shot 16-5 in the game as Briar Cliff pushed offensively to get the equalizer late in the first half. The second half saw very little opportunity for either team, as only five shots were taken by both teams combined.

York was 0-8-1 against the Chargers before Saturday. York will travel to Forest City, Iowa to take on Waldorf University on September 1. The Panthers will be back home to defend their home turf on September 8.
