Volleyball: Panthers rally comes up short in upset bid against McPherson

Hutchinson, KAN. - York College gave their best shot on Friday afternoon trying to pull off the upset over fifth-seeded McPherson College. The Panthers took the Bulldogs to five sets at the KCAC Championships falling 25-19, 13-25, 20-25, 25-22, 9-15.

The Panthers jumped out quickly to the surprise of the Bulldogs, who swept York earlier in the month, and took set one 25-19. After the Panthers lost the next two sets they weren't willing to let their season be over just yet. They climbed back into the match evening the score and forcing a fifth set. McPherson jumped out early in the fifth set and the Panthers were unable to make a comeback in the final set.

Tori Schindler (JR/Longmont, Colo) led the Panthers with 14 kills. Bailey Johnson (JR/Chico. Calif) and Haley Scoffield (SR/Casper, Wyo) were right behind with 11 kills each. Kayli Riesgo (SR/Tuscon, Ariz) made the best of her final game in a Panther uniform as she collected 41 assists and a team-high 25 digs. That was one more than Naomi Warren (JR/Fort Worth, Texas), who finished with 24. Kaylin Miller (FR/Lincoln, Neb) finished the match with 16, while Jasmine Scarbrough (FR/Arlington, Texas) added 15. Rose Tafaoialii (JR/Magna, Utah) was strong in the middle as she pounded out nine kills and had six blocks.

The Panthers finish their season with a 5-26 record.
