Box Score Sterling, KAN. - York College dominated their game on Saturday against Sterling College but narrowly escaped with a 1-0 win. The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the 31st minute as Breanna Bembenek (SR/Manhattan, Ill.) scored the game-winning goal. York consistently threatened throughout the 90 minutes but was unable to find the back of the net again.
York outshot the Warriors 29-8. Shots on goal were just as lopsided with a 14-2 advantage for the Panthers. Sterling looked to tie the game with just under four minutes remaining as the Panthers fouled a Warriors attacker in the penalty area. A one-on-one opportunity for the Warriors missed wide saving the Panthers from going into extra time.
Bembenek led all players with eight total shots. Amber Jimenez (SR/Gilbert, Ariz) and Logan Dye (SR/Wylie, Texas) finished with five apiece. Alexa Moreno (JR/Duarte, Calif.) finished with her first shutout of the season as she helped keep the Panthers record unblemished.
York improves to 2-0-1 on the season and will host McPherson College on Friday afternoon at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
