Box Score YORK - Johan Rodriguez scored in the 84th minute to give York a 2-1 win on senior day over the visiting Bethany Swedes. After a slow start to the match, the Panthers found themselves battling from behind. Cristofer Monje made a few incredible saves in the first five minutes to keep the game scoreless. However, the Swedes broke through in the 30th minute as Kevin Sithole found the back of the net.
York College was able to find the equalizer with just two seconds remaining in the first half. Gabriel Cabral scored on a penalty kick after a Panther attacker went down in the box after a foul by the Swedes' goalkeeper. The Panthers controlled the second half offensively as they allowed just one shot during the final 45 minutes of play. Even with a 7-1 shot advantage in the final period, the go-ahead goal didn't come until there were less than seven minutes remaining in the game.
On the stat sheet, the Panthers looked like they won by a few goals as they dominated the attack with an 18-6 shot advantage. But the defense of Bethany held strong throughout the match.
Alexandre Motta led the Panthers with four shots on goal.
With the win, the Panthers finish the regular season in fifth place in the KCAC with an overall record of 9-8-1 and a conference record of 7-4-1.
As the fifth seed, the Panthers will travel to McPherson College on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs will host the match as the four-seed in the KCAC tournament. The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
