Box Score YORK - York College fought hard all night but came up short in the four-set match to the Mount Marty Lancers. Scores were 24-26, 25-18, 19-25, 23-25.
The first game was a nail-biter after the Panthers held a six-point lead early on. The Lancers tied it up at 18 before a back-and-forth battle ensued and the Lancers prevailed after back-to-back attack errors. York rebounded strong though and took the second game with relative ease winning by seven. The third game was a strong one for the Lancers as they built an early lead off of the strong serve by Alexis Kirkman. Kirkman scored six points for the Lancers to build a 13-8 lead and never look back.
The fourth game was just as intense as the first three as neither team led by more than three points. York looked to force a fifth set as they climbed to a 23-22 lead late in the game, but three straight points ended the night with the Panthers falling to the Lancers.
York's defense was stellar all night as Jasmine Scarbrough and Alexandria Garcia led the team with 17 digs each. As a team the Panthers compiled 68 digs. Brooke Halterman was a machine at the net as she picked up six blocks. Kenna Tarnowski added five to her season total.
Darby Wright was a strong setter as she assisted on 39 of the teams 45 kills. Shiloh Lively hammered down 12 kills followed by Danielle Armendariz with 10.
The Panthers' downfall on the night might have been on the serve. On the offensive side of things, the Panthers committed seven service errors. Defensively they had nine reception errors for a free 15 points to the Lancers.
York falls to 4-10 overall on the season. They travel to Mitchell, S.D. on Friday for a match against Dakota Wesleyan. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
