Panthers fall in KCAC home opener

Box Score

YORK - York University battled in the heat on Tuesday afternoon but was unable to find the back of the net in the 1-0 setback against the visiting Southwestern College Moundbuilders. On a day where the heat index was hovering over 100 degrees both teams battled the full 90 minutes. Neither team was able to find the back of the next during the first half, but 12 minutes into the second half the Moundbuilders scored off of a solid shot from about 30 yards out. It was a lobbed shot that Alexa Moreno couldn't adjust to and it ricocheted down off of the crossbar for the goal.

York had a few opportunities late in the second half but were unable to capitalize. Paisly Cleveland led the team with four shots. She fired a hard shot in the 73rd minute that looked to tie the game, before a save by the Builders' goalkeeper. It was a solid look, but Cleveland was unhappy with her execution as she knew she mishit the attempt. She continued to battle but was often isolated up top without much support for varying angles to make plays.

McKenzie Stricker had a solid opportunity late in the game as well, but just missed the frame of the goal.

Alexa Moreno played the full 90 minutes in goal and allowed just the one goal on seven shots faced.

The Panthers will have a tough task on deck as they host #8 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
