Box Score 2 York University picked up their first two wins of the season Wednesday down in Kansas. The Panthers played at Bethany College in their first match and won in four sets 25-21, 25-23, 26-28, and 25-21. York took the first two sets before a tough loss in the third set. But they didn't back down as they stormed back in the fourth to pick up their first victory of the season.
Danielle Armendariz controlled the front row as she pounded out 13 kills on 37 attempts. Kenna Tarnowski added nine kills with just one error. Shelby Fronk led the team with 25 assists with Darby Wright compiling 16. Alexandria Garcia led four Panthers in digs with 36. Jasmine Scarbrough and Cassie Richardson each had 22 digs, with Wright adding 10. Ava Ziemba led the team with four blocks.
In the second match of the day, the Panthers traveled further down the road to Sterling College. After dropping the first set 22-25, the Panthers rallied back and defeated the Warriors in the final three sets 25-23, 25-18, 25-21. Armendariz and Scarbrough led the team with 11 kills each, while Brooke Halterman added nine. Fronk was again a strong passer with 20 assists and Wright finished with 17.
Alexandria Garcia dug the ball up 23 times while Richardson added 16.
York will have this weekend off before hosting Mount Marty on Tuesday night in their season home opener. The match is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Freeman Center.
