YORK - The women's volleyball team picked a perfect time to get their first KCAC win of the season as they did it on Saturday against Southwestern College in front of their Homecoming crowd. It wasn't easy as the Panthers started out slow losing the first game 25-12. But in between games a fired up sideline got the Panthers into gear and they routed the Moundbuilders from Southwestern in the final three games, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-23.
After hitting in the negatives during the first game the Panthers turned the tide and hit .300 in game two. That was enough to get the crowd excited and keep the Panthers momentum going into the final two games. York led the third game 23-16 before Southwestern started to make a run. After a 6-1 run by the Builders to make it 24-23 the service attempt by McKenlie Kirkhart went into the net to secure the 2-1 advantage for the Panthers.
In the fourth game the Panthers trailed 16-10 before going on a 8-2 run to tie the game at 18. A back-and-forth battle kept the crowd on edge until teh Panthers took the lead at 21-20. York never trailed again as the Panthers took the victory as
Danielle Armendariz and
Aubrey Bostick pounded down kills for the final two points for York.
Armendariz had a game high 13 kills for York.
Jasmine Scarbrough added nine kills.
Cassie Richardson led teh Panthers with 22 digs.
Mariah Janda had 33 assists.
Elena Brown was stellar on the serve with five aces.
York will be on the road on Wednesday to Tabor College. The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Hillsboro, Kansas.
