York University scored three goals on their way to beating Bethany College 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers picked up their second consecutive win of the season as they dominated possession against the Swedes.
Marcos Piao got the scoring started early as he converted on a penalty kick in the third minute of play as the Panthers were aggressive offensively right after the opening whistle.
The score would stay close until
Rashid Green juked a couple of defenders and scored the eventual game-winner just seconds before halftime.
Alvaro Lizana put in an insurance goal in the 59
th minute of play that allowed some breathing room for the Panthers.
As York started to feel comfortable the Swedes countered with a goal of their own in the 63
rd minute of play to get the intensity going once again for both sides.
Bethany tried to break the back line of the Panthers' defense but
Diego Rubio kept his backline steady and proved York was a more dominant team.
The Panthers played a strong game from a possession standpoint. They worked on building from the back and often reset the ball when the field was congested. The patience the players showed proved strong as they were able to be effective on the few shots they had. York had just five shots on goal, but was able to convert three of those for goals.
York will have a tough task ahead of them as they travel to play Oklahoma Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. The Eagles are currently ranked 11
th in the NAIA.
