York's Women's Basketball competed in their first tournament of the year at the CSM Classic in Omaha. They had two games against Haskell University and College of Saint Mary. The Panthers were unable to pull out a win against Haskell on Friday night but quickly bounced back Saturday afternoon with a win against College of Saint Mary.
Game 1 vs. Haskell University
York came out hot in the first quarter scoring 14 and holding Haskell's offense to 8. The Panthers did not slow down in the second quarter where they added on to their lead scoring 15. Going into halftime the score was 29-21 in York's favor. Haskell came out aggressive in the second half shutting down York's offense and stepping up their offense. The Panthers were able to score just 18 points in the second half while Haskell scored 39 second half points leading to York's 60-47 loss.
York was led by
Britney Schroer and Jess Mcgrath who each scored 8 points.
Audrey Hernandez scored 7 points and had 9 rebounds.
Clara Romero also scored 7 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Ashley finished the night with 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Game 2 vs. College of Saint Mary
York had an electric first half scoring 22 in the first quarter and 17 in the second. The Panthers defense held CSM to just ten points in the first half. In the first quarter the Panthers had a 57.14 FG% and a 57.14 3PT% shooting 4-7 from behind the three point arch. York didn't slow down in the second half scoring an additional 30 points.
CSM was able to put some points on the board scoring 27 in the second half. The final score was 69-37 and York got their first win of the season.
Britney Schroer and
Audrey Hernandez had impressive nights rolling over from game one.
Audrey Hernandez scored 14 points and 5 steals while
Britney Schroer put up 12 points with 6 steals.
Monique Contreras also scored in the double digits with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
