York University got on the scoreboard first on Wednesday afternoon, but the Warriors of Sterling College were able to bounce back and score two unanswered goals to win the game.
Matias Madriaga scored the Panthers lone goal in the 39th minute after some confusion in the box allowed him the chance to slot the goalkeeper. York's defense held strong over the final minutes of the first half.
Ten minutes into the second period a free kick by Sterling was placed perfectly over the backline of the Panthers and a two-touch goal tied the game.
Just six minutes later Ruben Guzman scored his second goal of the game to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
York's offense pushed hard the final 20 minutes of play but could not find a way to score. The Warriors escaped with a 2-1 win.
The match was very even as both teams picked up chances to score. Sterling held a slight advantage with 15 shots to York's 13. York's
Breno Prado faced eight shots, two of which were point blank blocks. The backline of the Panthers stopped two shots as well to keep the game close.
York travels to Leavenworth, Kansas on Saturday for a matchup against the Spires of the University of Saint Mary. The Panthers fall to 0-6-1 on the season.
