Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

York rolls past Sterling with dominant performance

York's women's soccer team got back to winning ways on Wednesday with a comprehensive victory over Sterling College at the Cornerstone Soccer Complex.

York flew out of the blocks with a goal after 50 seconds, when Rieke Wolff fed Sofia Villa Monterd a reverse pass; Sofia cut inside and finished with aplomb into the bottom left corner for her first goal as a Panther.

York continued to apply pressure and were finding joy down their right side with Celia Agudo raiding down the wing. After 11 minutes, she drove into Sterling territory and drilled a low pass into Cleo Paris, who set the ball beautifully for Gracie Reynolds to smash a left-footed strike into the top corner for a 2-0 lead.

The scores remained the same until the 39th minute, when Lucia Tornero unleashed a thunderbolt of a free kick from 35 yards into the top right corner, giving Sterling's keeper no chance. York held a 3-0 lead at the half-time break.

York did not have things all their own way; Sterling pulled a goal back in the 49th minute, when a long free kick was allowed to bounce in the Panther box and ended up bouncing in, cutting the lead to 3-1.

The Panthers restored their three goal lead on 60 minutes when a corner was recycled out to Nora Martin-Mora whose cross was superbly controlled by Gracie Reynolds in the box. Her sharp turn allowed a shooting opportunity and she found the corner for her second goal of the evening.

York quickly added a fifth a little over one minute later. Cleo Paris retrieved a ball on the right side of the box and sent in a fantastic cross to the far post where Gracie Reynolds stooped to head in her third goal of the night to complete her hat-trick.

York was able to get minutes for a large number of players on the roster, which will help with game experience and rest as the Panthers wade into a clogged KCAC schedule.

York outshot Sterling 27-3 and 16-1 in shots on target.

The Panthers travel back to Ottawa on Friday to resume their suspended contest from last weekend. The game was tied at 1-1 at suspension of play. York then heads to Leavenworth, Kan. on Saturday for a matchup against University of St. Mary.
