York and Sterling were locked in a tight match throughout last night with the Warriors picking up the win 26-24, 27-25, and 25-21.
It was a back-and-forth battle in each set as extra points was needed to decide the first two sets. In set one the Panthers looked to take it as they held a 24-23 lead with set point looming. But three unanswered points by the Warriors gave them the first set and some momentum.
In set two the teams were locked tight again. York took a 16-11 lead in the middle of the set, but a 4-0 run forced a timeout. Another back-and-forth battle had the Panthers at 24-23 once again. But the Panthers were unable to close it out and the Warriors took the set 27-25.
The third set was similar but this time the Panthers were battling from behind throughout. After trailing 15-9 the Panthers went on a run and brought the game within two at 15-13. Another run from the Panthers when they were down 22-17 put the pressure on the Warriors, but the comeback fell short as the Panthers lost 25-21.
York was led by
Danielle Armendariz with 10 kills, followed by
Brooke Halterman with seven. York held an advantage in offensive opportunities, but were unable to convert the attacks into points. The Panthers had 122 attacks to just 110 by the Warriors. But the hitting percentage for York was just .115, while Sterling was at .227.
Mariah Janda had a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs.
Cassie Richardson led the team with 15 digs.
Kenna Tarnowski was strong in the middle with five blocks on the night.
