York University hosted Bethel College in the Freeman Center on Wednesday night. Both teams battled in an even matchup but the visiting Threshers took the match 3-0.
Bethel took the first set with a slim margin as the Panthers battled hard before falling 25-22. It was back-and-forth throughout the game as neither team could build much of a lead. The Threshers took a four point lead at 19-15 before York was able to capitalize on a mistake by Bethel and kills by
Liberty Baker and
Brooke Halterman to bring it to 19-18. York battled over the final few points but the Threshers took the game 25-22.
In set two the Threshers controlled most of the game as they led by double digits early a 16-6. York battled back late as they went on a six point run before the Threshers took a timeout after
Mariah Janda's service ace put the game at 17-12. Bethel capitalized on an over ball that they were able to put down at the 10-foot line that shifted the momentum back to their side as they went up 23-14. The Panthers once again went on a run with kills by
Emma Kerley and
Danielle Armendariz. A kill by
Jai Dotson put the score at 24-19 before an attack error by Bethel brought the score to 24-20. The Threshers scored the next point to take game two 25-20.
Game three was just like game one with back-and-forth play throughout. Neither team led by more than a point until the Threshers went up 22-20 on York.
Kenna Tarnowski brought the Panthers within one at 24-23 with her kill before the Threshers finished it off once again at 25-23.
Danielle Armendariz led the Panthers with 10 kills on the night.
Jai Dotson was the most efficient as she added eight kills on .457 hitting percentage.
Mariah Janda led the team with 26 of the 35 assists.Â
Defensively
Cassie Richardson was big in the libero position with 26 digs.
Kenna Tarnowski picked up six blocks on the night to lead the Panthers.
York travels to Avila University on Saturday night for a KCAC matchup. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
