YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to pick up a 3-2 win over Bethany Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 17-8 on the year and 3-2 in KCAC action.
Leading 12-10 in the first set,
Kenna Tarnowski slammed home a kill. Two plays later,
Avery Schneider tallied a point. A bad set and an error by the visitors made it 16-11 in favor of York. Bethany knotted the contest and the squad were even at 23-23 before
Kaylee Weigel posted a kill.
Aubrey Bostick and
Liberty Baker combined for a block for the 25-23 win.
After dropping the next two sets, embarked on a huge run. Tied at 5-5, an error gave the Panthers a one-point edge. Tarnowski slammed home a kill before teaming with
Emma Kerley for a block. Baker took a pass from
Allison Parker for a 9-5 lead. Up 14-9, an error gave the side-out back to York. Weigel hammered home a kill before teaming with
Jai Dotson for a block.
Mariah Janda served up an ace, doubling up Bethany 18-9. Leading 23-19, an error by the visitors and a kill from Kerley forced the deciding fifth set.
Tied at 2-2, Weigel hammered home a kill. Baker and Tarnowski recorded a block or a two-point edge. Baker and Weigel had kills moments later for an 8-5 advantage. With the score at 9-7, Weigel gave the home squad a three-point cushion.
Florencia Felmer served up an ace. Schneider's kill extended the margin to 12-7. Up 12-8, Schneider tallied a solo block. Tarnowski garnered a kill. Three plays later, Baker ended the match off a pass from Janda for the 15-10 win.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by Baker's 13 kills. Schneider and Weigel added 11 kills apiece while Tarnowski chipped in six kills.
Janda dished out 24 assists and had eight digs while
Kensey Clifton accounted for 12 assists. Baker and Dotson each had four block assists while Dotson also notched two solo blocks.
Cassie Richardson posted 17 digs in the win.
