YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Evangel on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 19-12 on the year, including 5-6 in KCAC action. The Valor stand at 21-5 overall and 8-3 in league play.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Avery Schneider's six kills.
Kenna Tarnowski added five kills while
Aubrey Bostick and
Jai Dotson tallied three kills apiece.
Mariah Janda dished out 15 assists while
Kensey Clifton distributed eight assists. Clifton and Janda had two aces each while
Ambar Ortiz served up one ace.
Emma Kerley and Tarnowski were in on three blocks apiece. Dotson and
Ronan Merriex tallied two block assists each.
Cassie Richardson notched 13 digs in the loss.
Down 11-6 in the first set, Clifton registered a kill. Two plays later, Kerley and Merriex combined for a block. With the score at 14-11, two errors by the Valor made it 14-13. Janda served up a pair of aces for a one-point edge. However, the visitors managed to record a 25-19 win.
Trailing 7-1 in the third frame, an error started a run for the Panthers. Another miscue and a block from Dotson and Tarnowski made it 7-4. Ortiz had an ace before Tarnowski tallied a kill. Another block from Dotson and Tarnowski knotted the score at 7-7. Down 10-9, Kerley slammed home a kill. An error by Evangel gave the Panthers an 11-10 edge, but the visitors tallied a 25-18 victory.
