Falcons offense too much for Panthers

WICHITA, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 103-67 decision at Friends University Saturday evening.

The Panthers are now 2-5 overall and 0-3 in KCAC action.

York was led by Chris Dixon's 17-point effort. Carl Thorpe Jr., added 10 points while Dylan Holston tacked on seven markers. DJ Leaks, Andrew Bennett and Rhino Hernandez added six points apiece while Amari Haynes chipped in four points.

Leaks and Ikechukwu Nwaobi shared team-high honors with five boards apiece. Nwaobi also added four assists to pace the Panthers. Thorpe Jr., blocked two shots and had two steals, both of which topped the visitors.

For the game, York hit 25-of-64, including seven-of-25 from downtown. The team grabbed 38 boards, 15 of which were on the offensive glass. The Panthers distributed 10 assists and recorded 24 points off the bench.

The teams traded the first eight points of the game with Dixon and Bennett canning jumpers for the visitors. However, the Falcons took the lead at the 17:07 mark and never relinquished the advantage.

Trailing 16-8, Leaks hit a free throw before taking a pass from Nwaobi for a three-ball at the 11:51 mark, pulling the team within four at 16-12. Down 31-19, Dixon and Thorpe Jr., connected on back-to-back buckets, making it an eight-point game with 6:09 to go. However, Friends would take a 43-27 lead into halftime.

With the score at 46-28, Leaks hit a pair of free throws before Holston netted a jumper with 17:23 to go. Dixon and Hernandez buried three-point shots, helping the Panthers climb back to a 12-point contest, 53-41, at the 15:05 mark.

With under 10 minutes to go, Dave Dalge, Bennett and Thorpe Jr., helped York net six consecutive points. The Falcons scored the final 12 points of the game.
