WICHITA, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 69-59 decision at Friends University Saturday evening.
The Panthers are now 2-4 overall and 0-3 in KCAC action.
York was led by
Britney Schroer's team-best 13 points.
Alyssa Civitak and
Lawson Hiltl totaled nine points apiece while
Destiny Shepherd added seven points.
Olivia Adams and
Olivia Shannon chipped in six points each. Adams grabbed 12 boards in the losing cause.
After being outscored 21-6 in the first quarter, the Panthers outscored the Falcons the rest of the way. Down 26-6, Hilti canned back-to-back three-point buckets within a 31-second span to make it 26-12. The team cut it to 13 after a three-ball from Hiltl and a jumper from Shepherd. Civitak and Adams scored the final five points of the period, cutting the deficit to 34-22.
The Panthers sliced the margin to eight, 34-26, when Shepherd buried a shot at the 9:06 mark of the third quarter. With baskets from
Clara Romero and Adams in the final 80 seconds of the frame, York made it 50-37 going into the final 10 minutes of action.
Schroer took a pass from
Briana Bunkley with just over 8:00 to play and promptly canned a shot from distance, making it a 10-point game. However, that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
For the game, the Panthers hit 23-of-71 from the floor, including 10-of-33 from the three-point stripe. York grabbed 42 boards, including 13 on the offensive glass. The visitors dished out 18 assists and recorded 24 points off the bench.
