BRANSON, Mo. – The York University baseball team split a pair of games Saturday at the College of the Ozarks, winning the first game 3-0 before falling by a 13-4 score in the nightcap.
The Panthers are now 4-4 on the season.
In game one York had a chance to get on the board in the first inning when
Secundino Morales walked and moved to second on a passed ball. He moved to third on a fly ball but was unable to cross home.
The game remained scoreless until the Panthers broke through with a pair of runs in the sixth stanza. After
Ryan Romero was hit by a pitch,
Austin Grant tripled to right field, making it 1-0.
Sam Hodoly reached on an error, allowing Grant to race home for the 2-0 advantage.
York added to the score in the seventh inning.
Ian Heck reached on an error and hustled to second base.
Peyton Pinedo came in as a pinch runner and scored on Romero's base hit to center field for the 3-0 lead.
For the game, Romero led the way with a pair of hits.
James McCown went the distance on the mound, tossing a gem. He struck out six in the complete-game victory. His tremendous effort only took 79 pitches.
In game two, the home squad got things going early, scoring seven runs over the first three innings of work. The team added six runs in the fifth but the Panthers continued to battle.
In the top of the seventh,
Derek Dunn doubled to left field to lead things off.
Cameron Reeve singled and
Bryce Gorecki walked to load the bases. Stark reached on a fielder's choice, plating Dunn. A groundout by
Mateo Sierras pushed the score to 13-2 as Reeve crossed home plate.
Heck's single to center field plated
Isaac Stark and
Ryder Williams, who was in as a pinch hitter and walked earlier in the frame.
Trevor Peterson doubled to right field, putting two runners in scoring position. However, a strikeout ended the contest.
