Schroer Tallies 17 Points At Sterling

STERLING, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 92-60 decision at Sterling Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 6-16 overall, including 5-13 in KCAC play.

Head coach Corinna Minjarez's team was led by Britney Schroer's 17-point, eight-rebound performance. Alliyana Page added 12 points while Ashley Rubio contributed 10 points, four boards and three steals. Clara Romero netted eight points in the loss.

York trailed 7-2 before Schroer's jumper pulled the team within three in the early going. Sterling pushed its advantage to double figures at the 3:37 mark and the Panthers were unable to get any closer the rest of the way. Down 22-9, Xuriyah Harry converted a lay-up off a pass from Rubio to make it 22-11 heading into the second quarter. 

Minjarez's team tallied six points in the second frame, with the lone field goal coming from Rubio. 

Pasiko Hvichiani's lay-up to start the third stanza got things going for the visitors. Schroer took a pass from Imani Honey at the 9:24 mark for an inside shot. Schroer converted the team's next two field goals, giving her 15 points with 6:31 to play in the third quarter. Zeze Cooper stepped behind the line and canned a three-ball at the 3:30 mark before Rubio and Page tallied the team's points the rest of the third stanza. 

York outscored the home team 23-19 over the final 10 minutes of action. Schroer started things off with free throws before Page hit a pair of charity tosses. She added a pair of lay-ups while Rubio canned a jumper. Clara Romero scored four straight points and added a lay-up late in the game. Audrey Hernandez dished out an assist before burying a shot from distance at the 2:15 mark for the visitors. 

For the game, York shot 21-of-62 from the floor and hit 14-of-20 from the charity stripe. The team dished out 13 assists and got 41 points off the bench in the contest. The Panthers converted 12 offensive rebounds into 11 second-chance points. The squad also scored 30 points in the paint.
