SALINA, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 95-84 decision at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday evening.
The Panthers end their campaign with a record 11-17, including 9-13 in KCAC play.
Head coach
Tree Burks' team was paced by
Dwight Glover's 26-point, 12-rebound effort.
Cam Clardy added 16 points while
Jaden Henderson and
Andrew Bennett notched 11 points apiece.
Trevon Dennis contributed nine points to go along with seven boards.
Down 8-4 early, Glover and Henderson hit back-to-back shots, tying the contest with 15:32 to play. The Panthers saw an 18-10 deficit but
Jaden Henderson found the bottom of the net on two occasions, pulling the team within four, 18-14.
Trailing 35-19, Bennett buried a jumper. Glover's field goal made it 35-23 with 7:23 to play. KWU maintained a 43-34 advantage but Glover garnered a field goal. A pair of charity tosses by Glover, followed by another basket by Glover, trimmed the deficit to three, 43-40. The Coyotes led 45-40 but Glover and Henderson connected on field goals, making it a one-point game at the break.
Down 48-44, Henderson hit a pair of free throws. Clardy's bucket knotted the score at the 18:35 mark. After a pair of charity tosses by the home team, Glover gave York a 51-50 edge on a three-ball. Clardy and Bennett hit field goals for a 55-50 edge.
The Coyotes embarked on a 12-0 spurt before Glover stopped the run briefly with a free throw. A pair of free throws and a jumper by Dennis sliced the deficit to four, 64-60. That was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
For the game, York buried 30-of-67 (44.8 percent) from the floor. The team canned 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) from the charity stripe. The Panthers out-rebounded the home team 36-32, including 12-7 on the offensive glass. The Panthers registered 13 second-chance points. York tallied eight steals.
