Panthers Conclude Season With Road Loss At Kansas Wesleyan

SALINA, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team concluded its season with an 86-65 loss at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday evening.

The Panthers wrap up the campaign with a ledger of 7-19 overall, including 6-16 in KCAC play.

Head coach Corinna Minjarez's team was led by Britney Schroer's 11 points. Destiny Shepherd added 10 points. Imani Honey narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. She also added a pair of steals.

Clara Romero tallied nine points while Xuriyah Harry contributed eight points and seven boards.

Down 11-3, Honey hit a jumper and a pair of free throws. Rubio netted a pair of charity tosses with 3:48 to go, pulling the team within two at 11-9. KWU managed to take a 23-14 lead heading into the second frame.

Down 31-25, Schroer canned a jumper at the 5:20 mark. Just 28 seconds later, Romero hit a field goal, slicing the deficit to two, 31-29. A late bucket from Harry stopped an 8-0 spurt by the Coyotes but the Panthers trailed 42-31 at the break.

York faced a 47-33 deficit but Harry nailed a jumper at the 7:12 mark. Jess McGrath hit a three-point bucket prior to Pasiko Hvichiani connected on a field goal to make it a 47-40 game. The Coyotes maintained a 52-43 lead before Schroer hit a pair of jumpers late in the stanza to slice the margin to five, 52-47.

A three-point play to start the final quarter trimmed the contest to just a two-point game, 52-50. However, four consecutive three-point buckets by KWU pushed the margin to 14. The Panthers were unable to cut the margin to single digits the rest of the way.

For the game, York hit 22-of-63 (34.9 percent) from the field, including four-of-nine (44.4 percent) from downtown. The squad buried 17-of-21 (81.0 percent) from the charity stripe. Minjarez's squad recorded 43 points off the bench. The team controlled the paint, outscoring the home team 36-18.
