WICHITA, Kan. – The York University softball team lost a pair of hard-fought contests to Friends University Saturday. The Panthers lost the first game 7-2 and dropped the second game by a 6-4 count.
The Panthers are now 5-23 on the year, including 3-9 in KCAC play.
York trailed 3-0 in the early going of the first game. However, the squad got on the board in the third frame.
With one down,
Breanna Underwood doubled to left field and scored on
Kennedie Anderson's two-bag hit to left field.
The contest would remain at 3-1 until the fifth inning. The Falcons plated a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth frames for a 7-1 lead. However, the Panthers continued to battle.
In the top of the seventh,
Kayla Noelker singled up the middle and
Katie Taylor returned to the lineup to run. Underwood reached on an error, allowing Taylor to reach second base. Anderson's single through the right side loaded the bases for
Tricia Trice, who grounded out. On the play, Taylor scored.
York was unable to get any closer as a pop-up ended the game.
For the game, Anderson registered two hits and one RBI. Taylor and Underwood scored runs.
In the circle,
Kaitlyn Roe went the distance. She had a strikeout.
Game two saw York get on the board in the top of the first inning. Underwood led off the game with a single to left field and moved to second on a Trice base knock with one away.
Sofia Perez beat out an infield hit, driving in Underwood. Neveah Reed's double brought Trice home for a 2-0 advantage.
Friends University tied the game in the bottom of the first and the game would stay that way until the sixth inning.
Anderson led off the inning with a double to center field. Two batters later, Perez ripped a single to center field, driving in Anderson.
The home team responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-4 lead. Anderson reached on a fielder's choice, but a strikeout and pop fly ended the contest.
For the game, Perez, Reed and Underwood had two hits apiece. Perez drove in two. Anderson, Noelker and Reed all had doubles.
In the circle,
Alex Harwell threw five innings. She gave up four runs on five hits and had a strikeout.
Malia Alvarez worked the final inning and gave up two runs on three hits.
