YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 3-1 contest to Midland University Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 1-2 on the season. Midland improves to 2-2-1 with the victory.
For the match, York recorded six shots, including three on goal. The home squad recorded two corner kicks in the affair.
Between the pipes,
Jamie Watt stopped seven shots.
The visitors broke through with a goal in the 20
th minute of play for a 1-0 advantage.
York did not have its first attempt in the contest until the 32:16 mark. Then,
Jorge Boto's shot sailed just wide of the goal, keeping the score at 1-0.
The score remained the same until the second period when Midland found the back of the net in the 52
nd minute.
The Panthers continued to push forward and pulled within one in the 73
rd minute. With 72:53 on the clock,
Matias Madriaga belted a shot past the end-line, making it 2-1.
Midland recorded a goal a few minutes later, regaining a two-goal edge at 3-1. However, the Panthers blasted shots in the waning moments.
Tristan Grommen's attempt was high of the frame at the 82:51 mark.
In the 85
th minute of action,
Matthew Sanchez nearly scored, but the keeper managed to come up with a save. With less than 90 seconds to go,
Rodrigo Preto's shot was also thwarted by Midland, preserving the score.
