Volleyball: York splits Saturday action at Friends Triangular

WICHITA, Kan. – The York University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, falling 3-2 at Friends University before besting Randall 3-0.

The Panthers are now 11-14 overall, including 1-3 in KCAC action.

Against Friends University, head coach Irick Gardner's team was led by Brianna Lemke's 13-kill effort. Jai Dotson notched 11 kills while Ronan Merriex added seven kills. Florencia Felmer added five kills as did Jassania Joseph.

Meadow Nusbaum dished out 19 assists while Kensey Clifton dished out 18.

Defensvely, Joseph had five solo blocks and a block assist.

Valentina Jimenez posted 26 digs while Felmer chipped in 11. Ambar Ortiz narrowly missed double digits with nine while Nusbaum had eight.

After losing the first two sets, York won the next two by scores of 29-27 and 25-22 before falling 15-6 in the final stanza.

Against Randall, Joseph hit .480 while slamming home 14 kills. Dotson added 12 kills while Emma Kerley found the court nine times. Merriex added six kills.

Clifton was exceptional, dishing out 38 assists to go along with six digs.

Felmer, Jimenez and Olivia Romero had two aces apiece.

Defensively, Felmer had 16 digs while Jimenez totaled 15. Ortiz garnered 10 digs. Joseph had three solo blocks.

The tightly-contested first set saw York take a 20-19 lead before Joseph hammered home a kill. Jimenez served up an ace and Kerley added a kill to go up 24-19. Moments later, Kerley finished the frame with a kill.

Tied at 20-20 in the second stanza, Joseph posted a kill, but the visitors tied it. Joseph once again put the Panthers in front with a point. Two errors by Randall and a kill from Merriex gave the set to York.

The Panthers trailed 15-13 in the third set and roared back. The designated home team went on a 7-0 run, taking control of the frame. Dotson secured the final two points for the 25-17 victory.
