WICHITA, Kan. – The York University men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 contest to top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan in the KCAC semifinals Friday evening.
The Panthers are now 12-5-3 on the season.
Jamie Watt turned away a shot just 1:47 into the contest. York's first attempt came from
Aday Munoz Guedes, but it sailed high of the crossbar in the seventh minute of work. Watt thwarted top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan three more times in the first period, keeping the match scoreless entering the second stanza.
Franco Pablot posted a shot on goal at the 57:45 mark, but the attempt was foiled by the keeper. The Eagles broke through with a goal in the 67
th minute of action.
The Panthers' offense kicked into high gear and it paid off in the 74
th minute of play.
Sergio Bueno found Hulme, who quickly blasted the attempt into the back of the net, knotting the score at 1-1.
Oklahoma Wesleyan regained the advantage with a goal at the 84:33 mark.
York was unable to record another shot in the final 5:27.
For the match, York posted six shots, including three on goal. The Panthers earned a pair of corner kicks.
Watt secured eight saves between the pipes while playing all 90 minutes.
