Men's Basketball: Panthers win on Carroll's buzzer-beater

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Devin Carroll hit a three-point shot at the buzzer, sending the York University men's basketball team to a 68-67 win at Tabor College Saturday evening.

The Panthers are now 4-7 overall, including 2-3 in KCAC action.
 
Head coach Mitch McMullen's team was led by Eli Nutting's 21-point, four-rebound, two-steal effort. Jadin Johnson added 17 points and nine rebounds. He also dished out five assists. Dave Dalge accounted for nine points while Shaun Armstrong added eight points in the win.

Down 15-11, Jadin Johnson buried a three-point shot at the 11:29 mark. Just 19 seconds later, Johnson found Richard Massey for a lay-up. When Nutting hit Armstrong for a three-ball, the Panthers held a 19-15 edge. Up 23-22, Nutting drained a shot from distance off a pass from Johnson, giving York a 26-22 advantage. Trailing 33-31, Jaxon Kilmurry knotted the score with 67 seconds remaining. Logan Beckstrom's three-point bucket just before the buzzer sent the Panthers into halftime with a three-point cushion, 36-33.

The back-and-forth affair saw the lead change multiple times. Johnson's lay-up gave York a 48-47 lead. Moments later, Armstrong canned a shot from downtown for a 51-50 advantage with 9:16 to go. Down 57-52, Nutting scored the next four points, bringing the visitors within one at the 5:45 mark. Moments later, Johnson found Nutting for a field goal, once again making it a one-point game, 59-58. Two free throws by Johnson gave the Panthers a one-point lead at the 3:38 mark.

The Bluejays responded with a 6-2 run for a 65-62 lead with 1:27 to go. Trailing 67-62, Dalge converted a three-point play with 33 seconds remaining. The Panthers fouled with nine seconds to play and the home team missed a free throw. York secured the rebound and Carroll hit his only shot of the game at the buzzer for the win.

For the game, York hit 25-of-69 from the floor, including 11-of-36 from downtown. The team buried seven-of-nine from the charity stripe. The Panthers pulled down 29 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. York dished out 11 assists, recorded 34 points off the bench and netted 18 points in the paint.
