BRANSON, Mo. – The York University softball team split a pair of games Friday, knocking off Graceland 6-5 before falling to Calumet College of St. Joseph 10-6.
The Panthers are now 2-4 on the season.
Trailing 4-0 in the top of the sixth, York broke through. With one down,
Nevaeh Reed drew a walk. Two batters later, she moved to third on a base hit by
Emma Morphew. Reed raced home on a passed ball, making it a 4-1 contest.
Gracie Torstensen led off the seventh with a single through the left side of the infield. A double by
Katie Taylor put runners on first and third. Two batters later,
Kennedie Anderson ripped a single to left field, bringing the designated visitors within two at 4-2.
Taylor scored on a fielder's choice and a double by Reed plated Anderson.
Moriah Hoshowski roped a double to center field, knocking in
Chloe Lockhart and Reed for a 6-4 advantage.
Graceland scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout ended the game.
For the game, Anderson and Torstensen had two hits apiece. Hoshowski drove in two while Reed scored twice.
In the circle,
Alex Harwell had five strikeouts in five frames while
Kaitlyn Roe worked the final two and picked up the win. She had two strikeouts.
Against Calumet College of St. Joseph, York jumped on top with a pair of runs in the second inning. Red walked and moved to third after a passed ball and a steal. She raced home when Hoshowski reached on an error. Hoshowski scored moments later on a passed ball for the two-run margin.
Down 5-2 in the fourth, Morphew singled and scored on a double by Torstensen.
Down 6-3 in the fifth, the Panthers clawed back into the game. Lockhart walked and scored on a walk with the bases loaded.
Bethany Wright singled home Reed and Hoshowski scored on an error, but the visitors plated four runs in the sixth for the final margin.
In the circle, Lockhart went the distance and had a pair of strikeouts.
For the game, Morphew led the way with two hits while Torstensen drove in two and Reed scored twice.
