Panthers take series with win over Tabor Sunday afternoon

YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team earned a 5-3 victory over Tabor College Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 7-6 overall, including 4-1 in KCAC action.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the third, York got on the board when Trevor Peterson launched a solo blast over the center field wall.

The Panthers knotted the game in the fifth when Cesar Galvan crushed an offering over the left field fence for a two-run home run. Peterson crossed home on the play, having earned a one-out walk.

An inning later, Connor Larson and Austin Grant were hit by pitches. Cameron Reeve knocked a single through the right side of the infield, loading the bags. Larson scored on a fielder's choice for a 4-3 lead. With the bases loaded, Heck drew a walk, pushing across Grant for a two-run cushion.

That was more than enough as the defense did not allow another run the rest of the way.

For the game, Galvan led the way with two hits, including a home run, while driving in two. Peterson, Heck and Martinez drove in runs. Peterson crossed home twice in the victory. Larson, Grant and Reeve had hits while Galvan, Grant and Larson all scored.

On the mound, Heck got the start and worked 6.2 innings to get the win. He had five strikeouts. Cole Doebele worked the final 2.2 frames to get the save.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday when they host Peru State at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
