Panthers walk it off on Galvan's 3-run blast

YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team recorded a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over Bethany Tuesday afternoon in a KCAC clash.

The Panthers are now 19-19 on the season, including 16-13 in league play.

Nicholas DeMonte got things going in the first when he walked, stole second and took third on a groundout. Trevor Peterson's single to right field pushed DeMonte across for a 1-0 advantage.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, York pulled within one. With two down, DeMonte was the catalyst once again. He was hit by a pitch and hustled to third on a base hit to center field by Jose Martinez. With the bases full, Peterson drew a walk, allowing DeMonte to trot home while making it 3-2.

The Swedes answered with a pair of runs in the sixth for a 5-2 advantage.

In the eighth, Sam Hodoly reached on a fielder's choice, erasing Ryan Romero. Nathan Eisenmeger entered as a pinch runner and raced home on a Cameron Reeve double to right center field.

Martinez led off the ninth on a walk and took second on a base knock by Ian Heck. Eisenmenger entered as a pinch runner for Heck. After a pitching change by Bethany, Cesar Galvan ended the game on a three-run blast.

For the game, Galvan led the team with three RBI while Peterson had two RBI. Galvan smacked a home run while Reeve doubled. DeMonte and Eisenmenger each crossed home twice.

On the mound, Elvin Ramos got the start and worked 5.1 innings. He had four strikeouts. Austin Petersen tossed 2.2 frames and had two strikeouts. Sam Maudsley picked up the win with a scoreless ninth and he had one strikeout.

The Panthers return to action Thursday with a single game at Evangel starting at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
