ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The York University volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Friday, defeating Cottey College 3-1 before sweeping University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy 3-0.
The Panthers are now 6-10 on the season.
Against Cottey College, head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Brianna Lemke's 17-kill effort while hitting .448.
Isidora Pa Diaz Aguirre and
Jassania Joseph accounted for seven kills each.
Kensey Clifton dished out 26 assists while
Meadow Nusbaum posted 15 assists.
Florencia Felmer served up three aces.
Defensively, Felmer had 26 digs. At the net, Joseph had six blocks, including two solo stops. Pa Diaz was in on five blocks.
Leading 7-4 in the first set,
Brianna Lemke posted back-to-back points. Up 11-10, an error gave the Panthers a two-point cushion. Weigel and
Jai Dotson had kills en route to a 16-10 advantage. York kept the visitors at bay and Lemke put away two of the final points, securing the 25-18 win.
Maintaining a 7-3 edge in the second stanza, the Panthers embarked on a 5-0 run and were never challenged the rest of the set. Up 15-6,
Ronan Merriex and Isidora Pa Diaz posted kills. Holding a 24-20 edge, a service error provided the Panthers with the five-point victory.
After dropping the third frame, York cruised to a 25-12 victory in the fourth set. With the score at 13-11, Cottey College registered a point. It marked the last one for the visitors as York embarked on a 12-0 spurt to close out the match.
Florencia Felmer notched three aces during the run.
Against University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy, York was paced by Lemke's nine kills while hitting .636. Joseph added six kills while Pa Diaz Aguirre chipped in five. Nusbaum totaled 12 assists while Clifton registered 10.
Clifton notched a double-double with 11 digs. Felmer garnered 12 digs in the victory.
Up 7-6 in the first set,
Kaylee Weigel started a 4-0 spurt with a kill. Merriex and Pa Diaz recorded a pair of blocks for a five-point edge. A 5-0 spurt pushed the margin to 16-7, with the last two points coming from Clifton. Leading 23-16, Merriex added a point before an error gave the team a 25-16 win.
In the second set, York went on a 5-1 spurt to make it 13-4. Dotson had a kill while she and Merriex posted a block. The squad stretched the margin to 23-14 before Dotson slammed home a kill.
Elena Brown ended the set with the ace.
With a 5-3 edge in the third stanza, an error by the opposition started a 4-0 spurt. Lemke garnered a kill while Felmer had a pair of aces. The squad seized a 19-11 margin before rattling off three straight points off miscues. Moments later, Pa Diaz finished the match with a kil at 25-15.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they take on Freed-Hardeman at 9 a.m. and St. Francis at 11 a.m.
