YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory Friday evening over Kansas Christian.
The Panthers are now 3-9 on the season, including a 1-0 ledger at home. Set scores were 25-7, 25-9 and 25-11.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was paced by
Jassania Joseph's and
Liberty Baker's eight kills apiece.
Isidora Pa Diaz Aguirre added six kills in just eight attempts.
Florencia Felmer,
Emma Kerley and
Kaylee Weigel slammed home three kills each.
Kory Anschutz led the way with 16 assists while
Meadow Nusbaum distributed 10.
Kensey Clifton had eight assists and a match-high nine aces in the win.
Ambar Ortiz served up four aces while
Olivia Romero tallied three.
Joseph led the defense with two blocks.
York jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opening frame, concluding the run with an ace by Clifton. Up 12-2, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run. Baker had two kills and Weigel had one during the spurt. Leading 19-6, Weigel started another impressive run that clinched the set. Nusbaum had an ace during the spurt while Pa Diaz and Felmer also notched kills.
Clifton served up three aces in the early going of the second set for a 6-1 lead and York never looked back. Up 7-3, Baker and Joseph combined for a block. Moments later,
Elena Brown had an ace and Pa Diaz slammed home a kill. Pa Diaz was dominant in the emphatic run, adding three more kills for a 16-3 lead. With the score at 22-9, Kerley notched a kill while Joseph ended the frame with back-to-back kills.
Tied at 10-10 in the third frame, an error gave the home team a side-out. Joseph posted a kill before two more errors by the visitors made it 14-10. Leading 15-12, a miscue pushed it to 16-12 and sparked another run. Joseph and
Izabella Stehno recorded a block. Romero served up an ace. Kills by Joseph and Stehno extended the lead to 20-12. Romero garnered two more aces before Stehno found the court for a point, giving York a 23-11 advantage.
Amber White's kill ended the match.
York had 38 kills and hit .370. The team limited the opposition to six kills and a -.106 attack percentage. The home squad served up 20 aces.
