YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 91-64 game to Southwestern Saturday evening.
The Panthers are now 4-10 on the year, including 2-6 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's team was paced by
Landon Miller's 12 points.
Shaun Armstrong added 11 markers while
Jadin Johnson contributed 10 points.
Dave Dalge registered nine points while
Logan Beckstrom had six points.
Eli Nutting and
Jaxon Kilmurry totaled five points apiece.
Kilmurry dished out five assists while Johnson had four. Johnson also swatted a pair of shots.
Down 7-2, Beckstrom buried a three-ball off a pass from Dalge. Carroll found
Nathaniel Owen for a lay-up, knotting the score at 7-7. Trailing 12-9, Beckstrom hit a shot from distance before
Jaxon Kilmurry found Johnson for a lay-up, giving the Panthers a 14-12 advantage. Facing a four-point deficit, Kilmurry connected with Armstrong for a three-point shot, making it 21-20 at the 8:45 mark.
After Kilmurry drained a deep ball to make it 28-27, Southwestern netted the next six points. Armstrong took a pass from Kilmurry at the 2:34 mark and promptly dialed up another basket from long distance, cutting the margin to five, 39-34. The Moundbuilders scored the final five points of the half for a 44-34 lead at the break.
The visitors opened a 62-38 lead with 14:28 to play, but the Panthers embarked on a run. Miller hit a free throw with 14:10 to go. Miller canned a three-ball off a pass from Kilmurry just five seconds later.
Jadin Johnson connected with Miller for a three-point bucket at the 13:25 mark, wrapping up a quick 7-0 spurt by Miller in just a span of 45 seconds.
However, York was unable to get any closer than 14 points the rest of the contest.
For the game, the Panthers hit 23-of-60 from the floor, including 11-of-33 from the three-point line. The squad hit seven-of-10 from the charity stripe. York grabbed 27 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. York dished out 14 assists and had four blocks. The team scored 20 points in the paint and secured 16 second-chance points.
