Men's Basketball: Nutting scores double-double in loss to McPherson

YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team lost an 86-76 decision to McPherson College Wednesday evening.
 
The Panthers are now 2-23 on the year, including 2-17 in KCAC action. 
 
Head coach Mitch McMullen's team placed four student-athletes in double figures. Eli Nutting led the way with 16 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double. Dave Dalge and Jaxon Kilmurry had 13 points apiece. Landon Miller chipped in 11 points while Shaun Armstrong added nine markers. Logan Beckstrom posted eight points while Jomar Ezell had six points. Beckstrom and Ezell dished out three assists apiece. 
 
York jumped out to a 7-2 lead after five points from Kilmurry and a basket from Nutting. Up 10-8, Nutting drilled a shot from behind the there-point arc. Dalge connected with Beckstrom for a lay-up, extending the margin to seven, 15-8. Tied at 20-20, Miller canned a jumper. 
 
Moments later, Dalge found the bottom of the net on a jumper before Miller took a pass from Armstrong for a three-ball. Trailing 33-32, Miller's 11th point of the evening gave the Panthers a one-point cushion. The Bulldogs led 47-34 before Armstrong's jumper made it 47-36 at the break. 
 
The Panthers started the second half by seven straight points. Nutting drilled a three-point bucket before Ezell and Beckstrom hit inside shots. Dalge converted an old-fashioned three-point play, pulling the squad within three, 49-46. Dalge threw down a dunk and Ezell drilled a jumper, bringing York within three, 53-50. 
 
Down 64-56, Ezell hit an inside shot. Nutting made an old-fashioned three-point play, making it 64-61. Trailing 66-61, Armstrong netted five straight points, tying the score at 66-66. Dalge's tip-in knotted the score at 68. However, the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 spurt. 
 
Facing a 79-68 deficit, Dalge scored four straight points. Beckstrom and Armstrong buried jumpers, bringing the Panthers within three, 79-76, with 1:45 remaining. However, McPherson College scored the next seven points.
 
For the game, York drilled 32-of-69 from the floor, including seven-of-24 from the three-point stripe. The Panthers connected on five-of-six from the charity stripe. York pulled down 37 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. The squad dished out 11 assists and scored 38 points in the paint.
