Men's Basketball: York defense plays hard but Panthers fall to Threshers

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team completed the 2025-26 campaign dropped a 61-50 contest to Bethel on Saturday in the season finale.

The Panthers wrap up the year at 2-26 overall, including 2-20 in KCAC action.

Head coach Mitch McMullen's team was led by Logan Beckstrom's 13 points. Dave Dalge tallied 12 points and nine rebounds while Jadin Johnson had 11 markers. Eli Nutting chipped in eight points. 

Eben Effah, Eli Jones and Landon Miller each had two points in the game. 

Trailing 32-17 at halftime, York responded with a brilliant run to open the second period. Beckstrom got things going with a jumper. Dalge connected on a field goal as did Johnson. Beckstrom's free throw with 16:57 to play made it 32-24.

Down 34-24, Beckstrom found Johnson for a three-point bucket. Nutting's three-ball off a pass from Johnson sliced the deficit to six, 36-30, at the 14:42 mark. The Panthers cut the margin to four after a three-ball from Beckstrom and a jumper by Effah. The teams traded the next four points as Dalge's field goal made it 41-37 with 12:01 remaining. 

The Threshers embarked on a 7-0 spurt before Nutting halted the run with a jumper at the 8:09 mark. 

Down 52-44, Johnson connected from deep off Beckstrom's assist. At the 4:24 mark, he canned a free throw to pull within seven, 55-48. However, Bethel went on a run before Dalge's basket with 1:20 to play finalized the scoring.

For the game, York hit 20-of-51 from the floor, including seven-of-20 from downtown. The team grabbed 35 rebounds and dished out four assists. The squad tallied 20 points in the paint and nine off miscues.
