YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 97-62 contest to Evangel Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 7-18 on the season, including 2-16 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's squad was paced by
Zoe Brown's 14-point effort.
Alliyana Page accounted for 12 points and seven rebounds.
Destiny Shepherd and
Alesia Rand had eight points apiece. Rand snagged seven boards and had three blocks.
Sylvia Valentino posted seven points while
Olivia Adams had six points and six boards.
Monique Contreras had five points and five boards while
Yareli Gomez had two points.
Page and Contreras had three assists each. Page also swatted a pair of shots in the contest.
Trailing 7-0, Adams took a pass from Contreras for a bucket. Shepherd found Adams on the ensuing possession for another basket. Page converted a lay-up after snagging a defensive rebound, making it 9-6.
A steal and lay-up by Page brought the Panthers within one, 9-8. With 5:20 to play, Gomez connected with Valentino for a one-point cushion. The Valor closed the quarter on an 18-4 run for a 13-point margin.
For the game, York hit 25-of-56 from the floor. The squad buried three shots from downtown and hit nine-of-15 from the charity stripe. The Panthers held a 42-36 edge on the glass. Minjarez's squad snagged 12 offensive rebounds. York dished out 12 assists and record 17 points off the bench. The home team also netted 11 second-chance points.
