YORK, Neb. — York defeated Mount Marty 5-3 on Saturday. York scored three times and generated 13 shots in the second half, while Mount Marty finished the half with one goal on two shots.
Christ Keumoe Soh scored early to put York ahead 1-0 in the seventh minute of play. Mount Marty responded quickly thought scoring in the 12th minute to tie the game. The Lancers took their first lead of the game on a penalty kick in the 20th minute to move in front 2-1. York erased the first-half deficit when
Tim Schafer scored at 32nd minute to tie Mount Marty 2-2. Neither team could find the net before intermission.
A physical second half saw several cards shown including three red cards against the visitors. Despite playing down three men, the Lancers shocked the Panthers as they scored a go-ahead goal in the 69th minute.
However, York answered with three late goals, turning a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 win. Schafer tied it 3-3 in the 80th minute off
Franco Pablot's assist, and
Alex Hulme put York ahead 4-3 at 88:50. Pablot added the final goal at 89:54, capping a half in which York generated nine corner kicks and several late chances.
Schafer scored twice and put all three of his shots on goal. Hulme scored the game-winning goal, added an assist, and placed both of his shots on frame. Pablot finished with a goal and an assist while taking three shots. Keumoe Soh scored the first goal and converted his lone shot attempt.
The Panthers host Midland University on Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference game. The match will begin at 4:30 p.m.
