YORK, Neb. — York defeated Southwestern 3-0 on Saturday. The Panthers scored twice in the first half and finished the shutout with three saves while holding Southwestern to three shots on goal.
The Panthers built a 2-0 first-half lead on goals from
Asaph Achero at 6:36 and
Fionn Brereton at 17:03. Brereton was fed a pass toward the endline before he made a phenomenal move to keep the ball in play before scoring his second goal of the season.
Jamie Watt made a save on Southwestern's 38:12 shot, and York carried the two-goal advantage into halftime.
Achero scored his second goal of the match at 56:32 in the second half, putting the Panthers ahead 3-0. York also generated shots from
Tim Schafer and
Maxime Andrieu Briant.
Southwestern tried a late comback gathering three corner kicks and three shots after the 82nd minute, but Watt made a save and the Panthers finished off the 3-0 win.
Achero scored twice, including the game-winning goal, and put all three of his shots on frame. Brereton added a goal on his lone shot attempt. Watt played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves and recorded a shutout.
