YORK, Neb. — York defeated Midland 3-0 on Wednesday to pick up their first win of the season. The Panthers preserved the shutout as the Warriors charged late in the game.
York scored first at 2:05 on an own goal and later extended the lead when
Simone Loga finished
Maisie Briscoe's assist in the 32nd minute.
Addison Stewart made two saves in the half, and York also added a defensive save during a Midland stretch before taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Samantha Bayer scored in the 87th minute to extend York's lead to 3-0, accounting for the only goal of the second half. York generated some momentum in the middle of the second half three shots and a corner, highlighted by
Margot Bregeat's shot on goal. Stewart made four saves in the half, three during Midland's late push, and York closed out the 3-0 win.
Loga led the Panthers with three shots, two of which were on frame, including her first goal of the season. Bayer added an unassisted goal and placed both of her shots on frame. Briscoe recorded an assist and put her lone shot on goal. Stewart made seven saves in 90 minutes and did not allow a goal.
York improves to 1-0-2 on the season. The Panthers travel to Sioux City, Iowa on September 5 for a match against Briar Cliff. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
