Kris began his collegiate playing career at Temple College (2020–2022), where he played a pivotal role in transforming the program from a 5-win team impacted by COVID to a 20-win season in his second year including an undefeated home record. He then transferred to Fort Scott Community College (2022–2023), earning KJCCC All-Conference honors and serving as team captain while leading the team to a 19-11 record. During that season, he led the conference in free throw percentage and assists per game, guiding the team to its most conference and home wins in over 15 years.

In the 2024–2025 season, O’Neal attended Texas Wesleyan University. Although injuries limited his playing time, he embraced a coaching role, contributing to the team’s 19-11 overall record and an appearance in the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship. Beyond the court, he led team Bible studies, exemplifying his commitment to leadership and personal development.  

Coach O'Neal attended Hightower High School in Houston, Texas. At Hightower, he served as team captain, leading the team to a 33-5 record and a Texas 5A State Tournament appearance, finishing the season ranked #2 in the state. Known for his defensive prowess and elite shooting ability, he led the team in charges taken and three point percentage.
