Coach Alvarez enters his 9th year coaching at the collegiate level and 4th year with York University Softball. Alvarez was born and raised in Madera, California. He came to York University in the Fall of 2017 to continue his playing career with the baseball program.
In both years playing for York University, he was a part of 2 NAIA National Tournament Appearances. The 2018 season included Alvarez being awarded the NAIA National Champion of Character Award.
In 2017, Coach Alvarez was an Assistant Coach for Citrus College Baseball in California. Following the fall he was promoted to Pitching Coach prior to the season starting. In that season as the Pitching Coach, Citrus College compiled a very impressive 2017 campaign on the mound ranking #1 in their conference for Strikeouts, Walks Allowed, and Strikeout Average per game. Coach Alvarez later spent a season as the Bullpen Coach for the 2019 Hastings Sodbusters in the Expedition League.
In 2023, Alvarez was named head coach of the York American Legion baseball program. He then led that program to its first Nebraska State Tournament appearance in 32 Years.
2-weeks before the season starting in 2024, Coach Alvarez was named Head Coach for York University Softball. In his short time leading the program, he has produced 6 All-Conference Players and one Gold Glove recipient. The 2026 season included a record setting 100 stolen bases as a team, beating the previous program record of 64 set in 2023.
Outside of the diamond, Alvarez is a soldier with the Nebraska Army National Guard and member of the City of York Fire Department. He holds a bachelor's degree in Sports Management & Business Administration.
Coach Alvarez resides in York with his wife Jolene, their son Oliver (3), Layla (1) and golden retriever Molly (3).
