Box Score Salina, Kan. - York battled on the road Wednesday night against the top team in the KCAC, Kansas Wesleyan, but fell in straight sets 25-23, 25-18, 25-9.
The Panthers battled from 20-14 in the first game to close within one point at 23-22 before the Coyotes secured the final point. Danielle Armendariz led the Panthers with five kills in the game. She hit .500 on 10 attempts.
The Panthers looked to surprise the host team again in game two as they tied the game at 12. However, Kansas Wesleyan went on a 8-1 run to lead 21-13 before Jasmine Scarbrough sent home a kill from Darby Wright. The Coyotes never let the Panthers get closer than six points the rest of game two. Armendariz had another five kills on seven attempts in the game. Brooke Halterman and Aubrey Bostick added three each.
In the final game of the match the Coyotes left no doubt as they opened up the game on a 9-0 run. York was never able to answer back and failed to reach double digits in the game. York was negative in their hitting percentage in the game with six kills and eight errors.
Shelby Fronk finished the night with 15 assists, with Wright finishing with eight. Alexandria Garcia led the Panthers in the back line with 20 digs.
York has a few days off before traveling to Bethel College for their second KCAC match of the season. The Panthers fall to 2-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
