The men's soccer team needed a gutsy performance on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Eagles of Avila University. Their strong performance led them to their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory.
Alvaro Lizana scored off of a beautiful through pass by
Nathan Lira. A one-touch shot pushed the ball near post past the Eagles' goalkeeper. The play built from the back line with solid possession all the way through before Lira possessed the ball on the outside left. After a couple of moves he slotted the defenders to find Lizana chasing.
It was over 20 minutes before the Eagles were able to equalize the game on a penalty kick after a foul in the box.

Miguel Sarubbi picked up the game-winning goal on a rebound after a scrum in the penalty area. After a shot or two were deflected Sarubbi punch the ball into the back of the net for York and ran away in celebration.
York held strong over the final 25 minutes of play and escaped with the solid win.
York's
Breno Prado picked up the win as he faced just two shots on the afternoon. York was credited with six shots overall, four of which were on target.
York hosts Bethany College on Wednesday afternoon out at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. The game is set for 1:00 p.m.
