Coyotes late goals too much for Panthers

Salina, KAN. - York University opened the conference season on the road to Kansas Wesleyan. The Panthers battled strong all 90 minutes but two late goals by the Coyotes sealed the Panthers fate in the 3-1 setback.

After allowing a goal in the first four minutes of play the Panthers scored just before intermission on a nice goal by Gracie Reynolds. The goal gave the Panthers the momentum going into the break and allowed them to continue into the second half. A quick restart on a corner kick had the Panthers off their line and a near-post shot by Kansas Wesleyan from 25 yards out in the 70th minute ended up being the game-winner.

With the Panthers pressing high in the final minutes looking to tie the game the Coyotes were able to score an insurance goal in the 85th minute.

Kansas Wesleyan held a 16-10 shot advantage on the night. Reynolds led the Panthers with four shots on goal, followed by Celo Paris with three. The Coyotes had 31 fouls, while the Panthers had just 15.

Harumi Cornejo picked up 10 saves on the night as she allowed three goals.

York travels to Ottawa University on Saturday for another KCAC match.
