Panthers Fall To Kansas Wesleyan In KCAC Contest

YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team lost an 85-69 contest to Kansas Wesleyan Wednesday evening in a league contest.

The Panthers are now 6-9 on the season and 4-5 in KCAC play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by DJ Leaks' team-high 14 points. He also added five rebounds and a steal. Dwight Glover added 13 markers to go along with five boards and three assists. Jaden Henderson reached double digits with 10 points and he added five rebounds.

Cam Clardy and Trevon Dennis chipped in nine points apiece while Andrew Bennett accounted for seven points.

Leading 9-7 early on, Clardy hit a pair of free throws before Glover nailed a jumper at the 11:16 mark for a 13-7 edge. Up 15-12, Henderson took a pass from Rhino Hernandez and canned a shot, extending the margin to five, 17-12.

Tied at 19-19, Leaks and Clardy hit back-to-back lay-ups for a four-point margin at the 6:55 mark. A Dennis jumper off a pass from Clardy pushed the score to 25-21 less than a minute later. However, Kansas Wesleyan netted 12 consecutive points for a 35-25 advantage en route to a 40-27 lead at the break.

Trailing 49-33 early in the second half, the Panthers clawed their way back into the game. Henderson hit two free throws and Bennett hit a jumper off a pass from Dennis. Glover tallied an inside shot before Bennett converted an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 49-42. A three-ball from Leaks made it 51-45 at the 13:39 mark, but that was as close as the home team would get the rest of the way.

Down 76-55, Dennis hit a shot from distance before Leaks converted a lay-up. With 2:03 to play, Leaks hit another inside shot but the visitors answered with a bucket of their own.

For the game, the Panthers hit 25-of-60 from the floor (41.7 percent). The team connected on six shots from distance while burying 13-of-16 from the foul line. York outrebounded the visitors 40-38. Burks' squad recorded 31 points from the bench in the loss.

The Panthers return to action Saturday when they play at McPherson College at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
