YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 93-87 decision to Bethany College Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 3-11 overall, including a 2-8 mark in KCAC play.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Arcadya Conway's 18 points and six rebounds.
Imani Honey and
Britney Schroer had 15 points apiece while
Alliyana Page tallied 12 points.
Destiny Shepherd accounted for 11 points in the loss.
Jess McGrath and
Ashley Rubio had six and four points, respectively.
Pasiko Hivichiani and
Olivia Shannon tallied three points apiece.
Trailing 10-6 in the early going, Honey buried a free throw as did Schroer to make it 10-8. Page's basket with 3:11 to play in the first quarter knotted the score at 10-10. Hivichiani's jumper tied the score at 12-12 before the visitors took a 13-12 edge going into the second quarter.
The Panthers jumped in front in the second stanza when Honey found Schroer for a basket. Honey converted a lay-up before Conway's old-fashioned three-point play pushed the margin to six, 19-13. Leading 19-17, Shepherd recorded a three-point play to make it 22-17. Down 23-22, Schroer gave York a one-point edge. Although Bethany College regained the lead, Page's three-ball tied the game at 34-34 with 1:28 to play in the half. The Swedes maintained a 38-34 margin at the break.
Down by 13, 55-42, Schroer made a lay-up. Shepherd hit a free throw before Honey's bucket pulled the home team within eight at 55-47. The team got within six on Conway's lay-up but Bethany College held a 67-59 margin heading into the fourth frame.
The visitors held a 74-64 advantage but Page took a pass from Shepherd and converted a lay-up at the 6:02 mark. Conway nailed a jumper before Page's charity toss made it a five-point game, 74-69, with 4:37 to play. The squads traded points and
Ashley Rubio's field goal once again cut the deficit to five, 78-73, with 3:28 to play. However, that was as close as the Panthers could get the rest of the way.
For the game, York connected on 33-of-69 (47.8 percent) from the floor, including six-of-14 (42.9 percent) from the three-point line. The squad got to the foul line 24 times and hit 15 attempts (62.5 percent). The Panthers held a 41-35 edge on the glass. York distributed 11 assists and registered nine steals in the contest. The home team garnered 20 second-chance points.
