OTTAWA, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 99-69 decision at Ottawa Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 3-12 overall and 2-9 in league play. The Braves stand at 11-7 overall and 6-6 in KCAC play.
Head coach Corina Minjarez's team was led by
Arcadya Conway's 23-point effort.
Ashley Rubio accounted for 11 points and six boards to go along with three steals.
Imani Honey added nine points while
Destiny Shepherd chipped in six points.
York jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Trailing 4-0, Conway got things going with five straight points.
Olivia Shannon buried a three-ball at the 6:50 mark for the four-point edge. The teams traded points as Conway found Rubio for a basket, giving the visitors a 10-6 lead. Ottawa regained the lead and was up 16-10 before
Alliyana Page and Honey hit back-to-back shots. The Braves held an 18-14 advantage at the end of the first frame.
The home team managed to stretch the lead to 12 at the break but only after York trimmed a 12-point deficit to nine at the 6:02 mark. During the stretch, Rubio hit a basket and Conway made two free throws. With 3:23 to go, Conway's two charity tosses made it 40-31.
Britney Schroer made it 40-33 with a basket at the 2:28 mark.
In the fourth quarter, the Panthers continued to play strong. Down 89-55, Honey converted an old-fashioned three-point play and hit another bucket at the 5:28 mark. Down 92-60, Conway hit two free throws and Rubio made one.
For the game, York shot 25-of-57 from the floor (43.9 percent). The team made 16-of-20 from the free throw line. The Panthers snagged 32 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. The squad dished out 12 assists and registered 10 steals. York dominated the paint, scoring 40 points in the lane.
