Panthers Knock Off Braves In KCAC Contest

OTTAWA, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team picked up a huge road win, downing Ottawa 94-82 Saturday evening.

The Panthers are now 7-10 overall and 5-6 in KCAC play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by Dwight Glover's 21-point performance. Jaden Henderson added 18 points, six assists and four rebounds while Cam Clardy narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. He also dished out seven assists in the win.

Trevon Dennis totaled 14 points and five boards while Salvador Fernandez tallied eight points.

Early in the first half, Henderson hit a jumper and Devin Carroll converted a three-point play for a 12-6 edge. Down 23-20 with 10:10 to play, Glover found the bottom of the net with a three-point bucket. Andrew Bennett found him for another shot from distance 23 seconds later for a 26-23 edge. Glover wasn't done as he took a pass from Clardy and increased the lead to six, 29-23, with another shot from downtown.

Up 31-29, Devondre Mayfield connected with Clardy for a three-ball. Glover made a jumper and Henderson nailed a shot from deep for a 39-29 advantage with 3:50 to play. Mayfield made a pair of free throws with 1:08 to play in the half en route to a 45-40 advantage at the break.

the Panthers pushed the lead to 12 after Clardy and Glover tallied five consecutive points for a 56-44 advantage with 13:25 to play. Up 58-49, Glover hit a jumper. He added two free throws at the 10:34 mark for a 61-49 edge. Leading 62-51, Fernandez canned a three-ball off a pass from DJ Leaks. Fernandez nailed a shot and Henderson added a bucket for the team's largest margin at 69-51 with 9:05 to go.

Up by 10, Dennis buried a shot off a pass from Leaks with 1:34 to go. The Braves cut the deficit to nine, but Leaks answered with a field goal. Clardy connected on two free throws with 55 seconds to play, essentially putting the game out of reach in the 12-point victory.

For the game, York hit 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) from the floor, including 14-of-32 (43.8 percent) from behind the three-point stripe. The squad was solid at the line, burying 18-of-22 (81.8 percent). The Panthers led for 35:31 in the game.
